Overview

To contribute to Standalone's custom launcher, you need two things:

  1. Godot basics: scenes, nodes, signals, and GDScript. Part 1 and Part 2 cover these.
  2. Running the launcher locally. Part 3 covers this.

Part 1: Install Godot and Learn the Basics

1.1 Install Godot

Download exactly this version, because the project depends on it: Godot 4.5-stable

1.2 Learning resources

Topic Resource
Godot (general) Video
Godot (XR), most important Video
GDScript quick reference learnxinyminutes

Part 2: Onboarding Task: Ball Scene

<aside> 🎯

Goal: Build an XR scene where you can pick up and throw a ball. A ball is the smallest object that makes you work with the scene tree, physics, input, and state transitions all at once. Finishing this task shows that you can onboard yourself, move files between Godot projects, and ship a working result from loose direction.
